HONOLULU -- A pretrial hearing is scheduled for this week in the case of 1st Lt. Ehren Watada; he will likely be court martialled for refusing to deploy to Iraq.
Two experts on international law will testify on the legality of the Iraqi war at the hearing, which starts Thursday.
The 28-year-old Kalani High school graduate maintains the invasion and the continued fight against an indigenous insurgency is illegal.
His attorney, Eric Seitz, plans to call on University of Illinois international law professor Francis Boyle and former United Nations Assistant Secretary General Denis Halliday.
Watada is charged with missing a movement, contempt toward officials and conduct unbecoming of an officer for refusing to join his 3rd Stryker Combat Brigade Team on June 22 when it left Fort Lewis.
